Opportunities to Serve or Be Served
80+ Birthday
The members of this team have the pleasure of making birthday visits to our members who are 80 and older, taking them cards, small gifts or flowers.
First Handy Helpers
Volunteers offer physical services to those incapable of doing (or arranging for) small maintenance jobs in their home.
Floral Arranging
Volunteers are making new arrangements from the flowers used in worship or funeral services, and are then distributed to those in need of encouragement. In cooperation with the deacons, flower coordinator volunteers are arranging the flowers as an expression of their worship to God.

Friendship Register
This team reviews the Friendship Registers on Monday mornings to gather and distribute information recorded there each Sunday.
Homebound/
Nursing Homes
Friendly folk keep in touch and visit monthly our members who are unable to leave their homes, providing a warm connection to the church.
Mercy Meals
Volunteers provide a meal (or meals) when the primary meal provider of that family is unable to prepare meals due to the birth of a baby, surgery or medical procedure or other circumstances.
Networkers
The church is divided into geographical areas so that vital caring communications connect our members in the areas where they live. Networkers are used in their home towns to bring support, care, encouragement and information to members, as directed by Caring Ministries.
Parish Nurses
Blood pressure readings are taken the second Sunday of the month in the Caring Concerns Room. Nurses also provide occasional information sessions on health-related issues.
Pastoral Care
This team of trained, mature First Church members offer lay assistance to those going through illness, crisis, bereavement or other needs. Elements of assistance include a listening ear, encouragement, confidentiality and spiritual advice as needed. Responsibilities vary, depending upon volunteer's gifts, skills and availability. Some members of this team and staff do hospital visitation, whenever we are notified that a member is hospitalized.
Prayer Chain
These groups of folks do a vital behind-the-scenes ministry by praying immediately for confidential requests that are phoned in or written on the blue prayer request form found in various locations in the church. Each week, Caring Ministries also provides prayer request sheets of non-confidential needs for anyone to pick up and take home. Many of these requests are received through e-prayer. Altar Prayer, Healing and Intercessory Prayer ministries are also vital and active ministries at First Church. Contact Caring Ministries at care@firstchurch.org for more details.

Sunday Receptionists
Each team member sits at the reception desk during half of a Sunday morning, once a month, to act as a friendly, helpful greeter; answer the telephone, relay messages and direct people.
Shawl Ministry
Dedicated knitters make prayer shawls for people who need to feel and know Jesus' love for them through the difficult times in which they find themselves. The shawls are given to represent the love and care of our Lord and of those who pray as they knit. They meet the first Tuesday of each month, Sept. - June in the Parlor at 7:00 PM. Elaine St. Onge facilitates.

Special Needs Resources
Many individuals are available whenever needed for special needs such as teaching, facilitating, visiting outlying hospitals, clerical and art work, and walking someone through a crisis they themselves have experienced.
Transportation
Willing drivers provide rides for non-drivers to vital destinations (doctor, grocery store, church, etc.) using their own vehicles.
