The mission of the Stewardship Committee is to broaden the understanding and practice of biblical stewardship as a "life model"* for the faith community of First Church of Christ in Wethersfield and for the communities it serves, through a multi-year, whole-church initiative to include prayer, education, application and testimony to God's grace in our lives.
*It is the belief of this committee that this expanded understanding and practice of biblical stewardship is at the heart of discipleship as expressed in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19) — and also in the Great Commandment (Mark 12:30-31a, ESV):
And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength....You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
As such, we recommend it be viewed and promoted as a "life model" for a disciple of Jesus in the context presented in Romans 8:28-29a (NIV):
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.(italics ours)
