Senior Minister Candidate Is Chosen

THE VOTES

On September 2, 2009, the Senior Minister Search Committee met and unanimously voted to recommend the Reverend Deryk P. Richenburg of Woburn, Massachusetts, to the Church Board as its enthusiastic choice for the twenty-seventh Senior Minister of First Church of Christ. Deryk is currently the pastor of First Congregational Church in Woburn, an historic church gathered in 1642. Over 350 candidates had been thoroughly reviewed by the Search Committee.

It was, indeed, a unanimous decision, even though committee member Romero Cherry had died on June 12. Three weeks earlier, he watched a DVD of Pastor Deryk preaching a sermon to the committee. When it was over, Ro said, “Get him.”

On September 15, the members of the Church Board also voted unanimously, to heartily accept the Search Committee’s recommendation.

SPECIAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING IS CALLED

A letter to all members of First Church of Christ was mailed on September 16, with notification that the Senior Minister Candidate will preach at all worship services on Sunday, October 18, and that a Congregational meeting will take place in the Meetinghouse at 12:30 p.m., immediately following the 11:00 service, for the purpose of acting upon the above recommendation. Childcare will be provided.
